Born in Edinburgh, 1935.

Donald first travelled to South Georgia on the Southern Harvester in 1959. On arrival he transferred to the whale catcherSouthern Soldier to work as an engineer. He returned to work as an engineer the following year on the Sigfra.

In his final year in the industry he travelled to the island on board Southern Harvester as 3rd engineer and transferred to the Southern Angler for the season.

Donald is the Secretary of the Salvesen Ex Whalers Club and helps to organise club meetings and events.

He now lives in South Queensferry and has not returned to South Georgia since his time in the whaling industry.
