Whale of a Weekend was an incredible success, and we want to say thank you to everyone who joined us in person, supported and delivered events, or tuned in online. From creative workshops to science themed talks, SGHT shared the rich history of whaling communities.

The Whalers’ Memory Bank was officially launched by Dan Snow alongside former whalers and the South Georgia Museum team. Over the past two years, South Georgia Heritage Trust and South Georgia Museum have gathered stories from Scotland’s whaling communities. These personal recollections will live on in an interactive archive, preserving voices both proud and reflective.

Other weekend highlights included Lorraine Kelly meeting with ex-whalers, a Q&A session with Endurance22’s John Shears and explorer Nico Vincent transported us to the expedition to find the wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship, art workshops saw participants of all ages designing whale-inspired creations, talks by dedicated whale scientists which revealed the latest discoveries in conservation, and the Natural History Museum joined us with interactive displays, bringing whale anatomy and migration stories to life.

Now the adventure moves south. This summer, we’ll be shipping the Key Table—the first instalment of ‘Commensalis’—to South Georgia.
