On 27 June in Dundee, historian Dan Snow will help us launch The Whalers’ Memory Bank—a first-of-its-kind digital time capsule brimming with real voices from Scottish whaling communities. Over the last two years, South Georgia Heritage Trust and the South Georgia Museum teamed up with former whalers and their families to preserve their memories of life during the whaling era in South Georgia.
- Discover how whale oil was used in everything from margarine to munitions and fuelled Britain’s engines.
- Hear these ex-whalers speak of danger, camaraderie, and the lure of adventure in the Southern Ocean.
- Experience history through their eyes—before whale conservation reshaped our world.
Join us on launch day online for this SOLD OUT event to explore these extraordinary stories. The livestream can be found here.
