Born in Shetland, 1937.
Norman has a long history in the South Georgia whaling industry. He made his first trip to the island in 1954 as a Mess Boy and returned nearly every year until 1962. He was an AB when he left the industry. He spent two winters on the island, the first as a Mess Boy and the second working on whale catcher maintenance at Leith Harbour.
During the 1980s he returned to the island while working on a supply ship from the Falkland Islands. He was also involved in maintaining Ministry of Defence buoys around the island during this time.
Norman is a member of the Salvesen Ex Whalers Club and spends his time between Leith in Scotland and Shetland.
