HRH The Princess Royal

Patron

HRH The Princess Royal was approached by the SGHT because of her interest in, and commitment to, the Antarctic region. The Princess is already the Patron of the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust and recently visited the South Atlantic region on a Royal tour that included the Falkland Islands and the BAS station Rothera on the Antarctic Peninsula.

HRH The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Tim Laurence visited South Georgia in March 2009 with the South Georgia Heritage Trust, where among other duties Her Royal Highness opened the new Carr Maritime Gallery addition to South Georgia Museum.

Baroness Young of Old Scone

Honorary President

Baroness Barbara Young of Old Scone accepted an invitation to become an Honorary President of SGHT in May 2010. Baroness Young sits in the House of Lords.

Baroness Young is currently chair of the Woodland Trust. She is a former Chief Executive of the Environment Agency and the RSPB. The nature of her distinguished career means Baroness Young is particularly interested in and supportive of SGHT’s groundbreaking Habitat Restoration Project to save the native habitat for South Georgia’s birds and vastly increase their numbers by eradicating rodents from the entire island.
