• In February and March 2019, detailed archaeological surveys are carried out of the beaches where sealing took place on South Georgia. The South Georgia Museum team accessions and cares for the artefacts retrieved during the project, helping to arrange for items requiring specialist care to be loaned or relocated to the UK
  • Nick Prentice is appointed as SGHT’s new Chairman.
  • In May SGHT holds a meeting in London attended by representatives from GSGSSI, FOSGI, BBC Natural History Unit, Natural History Museum and Thies Matzen, who has initiated a project to create a memorial to the whale on South Georgia.
  • With the help of Sally Reaper of SMART art agency, SGHT launches a call for proposals in the autumn of 2019, accompanied by a press release.  Twenty-five proposals are selected for consideration by an independent judging panel, (including the GSGSSI CEO), which chooses a shortlist of three artists.
  • SGHT appoints a full-time Curator for the South Georgia Museum, Jayne Pierce.
