• Friends of South Georgia Island (FOSGI) is established by SGHT Trustee Denise Landau and immediately begins fundraising for the HR project, enticing US supporters through tax receipt incentives to support its work. FOSGI Board Members include Michael Moore, Peter Harrison, Lisa Kelley, Kim Heacox, Marilyn Rudne, and Denise Landau.
• Following conditional approval from GSGSSI, Tony Martin is instructed to prepare for the trial phase of the HR project in 2011. Two helicopters are purchased for the baiting work.
• SGHT publishes a Guide to the Flora of South Georgia written by Deirdre Galbraith.
• The South Georgia Museum’s oral history project begins to capture the stories of South Georgia’s former whalers.
• SGHT joined the GSGSSI and BAS in funding the collation of records of benthic species recorded in the waters around South Georgia. Over 14,000 records representing 1027 species in South Georgia waters were recorded.
