SGHT and FOSGI charter the British Antarctic Survey vessel, the RRS Ernest Shackleton, to take helicopters and equipment from the UK and Falkland Islands to South Georgia in February 2013 for the Habitat Restoration project. The vessel is used to deploy fuel and bait at Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) at the baiting zones.
Following the essential removal of reindeer by GSGSSI, a second phase of baiting is undertaken from March to May of 2013, covering 60% of the remaining. infested area of the island. Team Rat increases to 25 experts (more than twice the size of the Phase 1 team) and camps at Forward Operating Base sites, moving around the island as the baiting progresses.
