• The expedition cruise ship Grigoriy Mikheev is chartered by SGHT to take HRH The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Trustees, passengers and staff of SGHT to South Georgia, where HRH opens the new Maritime Gallery.
• The Habitat Restoration Steering Committee is formed, chaired by Trustee Prof. Mike Richardson, and including representatives from SGHT, GSGSSI and British Antarctic Survey.
• Elaine Shemilt secures funding from Ferring Pharmaceuticals and the Paulsen Foundation for a Chair in Animal Conservation within CRE at the University of Dundee, awarded to Tony Martin who has been appointed by SGHT as Director of the Habitat Restoration project.
• An online archive of the South Georgia Museum collection is created.
• SGHT, in partnership with the British Antarctic Survey, funds the inclusion of South Georgia specimens in the Overseas Territories virtual herbarium at Kew Gardens.
• SGHT, the South Georgia Association and South Georgia Surveys co-fund the entry of data from a historic sites survey by Sally Poncet into the South Georgia historic sites database and South Georgia Government’s Geographic Information System (GIS).
• SGHT holds an event at the Royal Geographical Society to raise awareness of the HR project.
