• In partnership with several Scottish museums and with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Dynamic Collections Campaign, the Binks Trust and the Adrian Swire Charitable Trust, the creation of a “Whalers’ Memory Bank” by the South Georgia Museum begins, with events for ex-whaling communities in Shetland and Orkney
• Rivets are collected from Stromness Whaling Station with permission from GSGSSI, to be incorporated in the Key Table, the first part of the whale memorial for South Georgia. Work begins on the fabrication of the table which is 5 metres in diameter and made of COR-TEN steel which creates a natural rust patina. The Key Table will be exhibited in Dundee in June 2025 before being transported to South Georgia for installation at Grytviken in October/November 2025.
• With support from Darwin and FOSGI a new whale gallery is created at the South Georgia Museum.

• The Trust’s Curatorial team work with GSGSSI and BAS to arrange for the Hope Cross to be sent from South Georgia to Dundee. Following Ernest Shackleton’s death on board the Quest in 1922, his crew erected the Hope Cross in his memory. In 2018 the decision is made to replace it with a replica, to protect the original which is beginning to deteriorate in South Georgia’s harsh environment. In early 2024 the original cross begins its journey to Discovery Point in Dundee, Scotland, where it stands at the centre of a brand-new gallery about polar exploration.
